Question about size creep
Good morning. Question about size creep. We started as a family of four, then added a dog, then my mother started coming along, and now my daughter brings a friend every trip. We are at seven bodies and our four person tent is a clown car. Rather than buy incrementally again in two years, I want to size up once and be done. Is seven person gear a real category or do I jump straight to ten?

Size creep is universal and you are smart to jump ahead of it rather than chase it. Seven is a real category and probably right for you - ten person gear is a lot of tent to haul and heat for seven bodies. Look at family camping tents in the seven range, Coody's are 4-season so grandma gets a warm night when you push into fall. Pricing lands around $1,899-$2,199. One consideration: check your vehicle before you commit. These pack down reasonably but a seven person inflatable plus a pump plus everyone's gear fills a trunk fast. Measure your trunk before you order, not after it arrives. Two or three trips a year with seven people means you are also hauling chairs, coolers and a stove, and the tent is only part of the puzzle.
